    Appalachian Race – December 21 & 22 ,2008

The race season started at Appalachian mountain on December 20th and 21st. Our team started slowly with a 5th place finish on Saturday, however on Sunday we tied for first. Our point totals left us in 4th place overall after both days, but Sunday's performance proved that we have what it takes to compete for the division title.

We had several podium finishes on both days, especially on Sunday. The notable results for the weekend were:   

Saturday/SL                      1st place:            Alex Dance and Jo Widener

3rd place:           Madison Deering and Mark Mabry

Alan Stevens and Matt Cartier just missed the podium, finishing 4th.

Sunday/GS                         1st place:            Alex Dance, Madison Deering, J.R. Thacker, and Jo Widener.

                                                2nd place:           Rick Bates, Joe Holt, and Andrew Naylor

                                                3rd place:            Matt Cartier

We had some folks in flight 22 who just missed qualifying, and will probably make it on the next attempt.  However, Joy Thacker did qualify with a 60.7 handicap and we welcome her to the team!

Special thanks to Alex Dance for volunteering for gatekeeping duties in place of one of the racers who was absent on Sunday. His unselfish gesture is very much appreciated!

The next race is at Sugar Mountain on Jan 10th and 11th. We look for more great results there!
